On the other hand, ConvertKit is a software that offers complete email automation and marketing for your website.
As you can see, both companies offer vastly differing features. I guess you could say that instead of putting them in competition, they’d work better if you used them to complement each platform’s designated strengths.
I like to think that instead of comparing the platforms, you should use them both to your advantage.
But of course, it’s also important to consider if you actually need both tools for your business. To get a better feel for the software, let’s take a closer look at each of them before making a decision.
What is LeadPages?
As stated above, LeadPages is a handy tool that helps you collect leads and create landing pages. To help you execute these tasks, it comes with a host of features that gets the job done efficiently.
This in-built feature helps you nurture your leads to increase your conversion rating.

Basically, it helps you not only collect information from potential clients, but it also guides you through the process of increasing the likelihood of making a sale.
It’s no secret that gathering leads is the easy part when it comes to running a business. But there will always be a very small chance that those potential customers actually make a commitment to your brand.

I like how LeadPages doesn’t limit you to a certain number of page traffic or contact collection each month.

Another cool thing to take note of is that LP lets you create and publish as many landing pages as you want. That means you’re able to run as many campaigns as you want without having to worry about reaching a certain threshold.

When I say you don’t need an ounce of hypertext code skill to pull off quality lead pages on the platform I mean it. The drag and drop builder is user-friendly, smooth, and well-organized so you’re able to easily locate certain tasks and elements that you need for your campaigns.
That’s all well and good for newbies and non-techy folk.
But what about those of us who actually like to add customizations to our pages?
Don’t worry. LP also allows you to add in custom code snippets when you want. If you’re like me, and you like to have free reign over your output every once in a while, you’ll be able to do so with ease.
This is mainly why the software is ideal for both newbies and hypertext veterans in the field.

One of the things I hate with platforms is when you need to edit your templates to fit different gadget types individually. Luckily, LeadPages comes with a good set of template options that are optimized for mobile devices as well as desktops.
This means you don’t have to worry about changing certain elements to fit smaller - or larger, screens better.
Another thing you need to consider is that their templates are more than just attractive to look at. They’re designed by professionals to help you boost conversions which eliminate one core task that you need to focus on.
This means it’s ideal for newbies who aren’t sure how to create content that encourages leads to convert. Or if you’re simply in a hurry and don’t have time to work out how to create a high-converting layout.
This tool allows you to use certain elements on your landing page to trigger opt-in forms. This allows you to collect more specific information from leads and views on your pages according to customer activity.
This turns each of your pages into a lead magnet and is part of the toolkit that increases conversions on the software.
This feature allows you to display a five-digit number to your leads. Which they can then respond to by texting you their email address.
This isn’t a new development in the marketing industry per se, but it’s a unique one for LeadPages.
If it sounds familiar to you, that’s because it probably is. You’ve seen it in TV ads, print ads like flyers, and brochures before.
Nonetheless, the platform allows you to automatically collect and save leads through non-electronic methods and have your customers come to you through texting you their details.
Summary: why should I use LeadPages?
LeadPages is a good software to use if you’re focused solely on collecting leads and creating campaigns that help encourage conversion. It isn’t particularly meant for maintaining a relationship with your customers since it isn’t designed for email marketing.
Nonetheless, the platform is a good investment if you want something that focuses on a certain job and executes it impeccably.
If you’ve been following me for a while now, you’re well aware that I’m iffy about “all in one tools” just because they very rarely are able to be more than just mediocre in certain aspects.
What is ConvertKit?
Like I said above, it’s better suited as an email marketing tool. This allows you to connect with your customers further after they’ve signed up to your landing pages or promotions.
What I like about the software is that there are a ton of features that help you achieve this. There are some basic features like the builder and segmentation. But there are also several more advanced features that come with a subscription.
Let’s take a quick look at those key features below.
Landing page creator
So you’re probably wondering why I don’t just recommend ConvertKit since it comes with a landing page builder anyway.
Wouldn’t that be more cost-effective?
It would be, except the landing page builder and editor on ConvertKit is very basic and doesn’t even compare to what LeadPages has to offer.
To start with, I’m not a fan of the user-interface. Plus the fact that it mostly relies on a hypertext format means you don’t get many visual effects that are easy to edit and use like with LP.
Furthermore, there are also a good selection of templates. However, you also need to keep in mind that most of the templates are simple and quite outdated. They’re not as attractive nor are they geared towards conversion the same way LeadPages is.
To cut it short, it’s a good bonus, but it’s not very effective, nor is it a good idea to rely on it entirely.
The newsletter builder
Moving onto the actual good parts of the software, ConvertKit comes with a newsletter builder that is simple, streamlined and features a no-nonsense design that lets you focus on the content of your emails instead of the aesthetic parts.
If you’re thinking of building completely basic emails without adding too many widgets to it, you’re safe from having to add snippets of code. However, if you really want to reach the full potential of the platform, you’re going to need to learn at least a bit of HTML coding.
For example, you’re not able to add social buttons to your email unless you add a custom code. That said, the builder itself is easy to use and has a handy floating + button on the left-hand side along with a preview option that lets you track what it will look like before you send it out.
I like how easy it is to set the subject, add content, change font styles, background colors, and even add in images as needed.
Don’t you just hate it when your campaigns don’t get opened? I mean, there’s always that small percentage that won’t open your emails, but reaching out a second time would seem too forward and would be too much additional work.
This feature lets you resend your email to non-openers. There’s also the option of changing the subject to make it look different altogether and so you can better catch their attention.
The autoresponder feature is a must for any email marketing platform. This saves you time from having to respond to each individual action taken on your campaigns, without running the risk of it sounding robotic and insincere.
This basically gives you the opportunity to connect with your leads, maintain that connection, and to further nurture it into a possible conversion in the future.
What I like about the way ConvertKit handles their autoresponder tool is that it’s easy to set specific triggers. You’re even able to segment certain contacts depending on their activity so you’re sending them more personalized content that they would be more inclined to view or buy into.
Visual automation dashboard
This tool lets you view each step of your campaigns in the exact sequence they’ll happen.
This gives you a better feel for what your customers will receive when they accomplish certain tasks. And it will also help you better perceive exactly which parts need alteration to boost the likelihood of conversion.
Summary: why should I use ConvertKit?
You should use ConvertKit if you’re looking for a simple, streamlined, email marketing software that comes with advanced features that are guaranteed to work for your business. It not only helps you more easily keep track of your sequences and campaigns, but it’s also more focused on content which makes it ideal for professional bloggers.
This way, you’re not distracted by the pressures of added design elements, but you’re able to better connect with your contacts by sharing more valuable content.
I like how the platform is easy to use, loads fast, and the way it allows you to build newsletters with or without coding experience.
That said, you will get more use out of the software if you know how to code. I find it’s a great tool for anyone who just started learning hypertext and would give you ample room to grow.
Unfortunately, despite the presence of a landing page builder, I found it lacking which is why I recommend using ConvertKit in tandem with LeadPages instead.
LeadPages pricing: how much does it cost?
LeadPages starts at $37 for a monthly billing cycle or $25 if you choose to be billed annually. For the range of features it offers, I’d say it’s well worth the investment. However, if you want to invest in a platform that’s more of an all-in-one solution, I recommend you look elsewhere since you will have to integrate it with another tool to help you target email marketing.
It does not come with a free plan, but you do have the option of giving their free trial a whirl. I suggest taking it for a spin before making a commitment just so you know if it’s right for your brand.
ConvertKit pricing: how much does it cost?
On the other hand, CK offers a free lifetime plan which caps off at 1,000 subscribers.
Nonetheless, it’s a good deal if you don’t want to spend the extra money just yet. Besides, once you reach 1001 contacts, I doubt you’ll still feel like their plans which start at $29 a month isn’t worth the investment.
LeadPages vs ConvertKit: final thoughts
Just to recap exactly what I feel about the ConvertKit vs LeadPages debate, it would be better to use them together instead of trying to pit them against each other. After all, they’re vastly differing platforms.
But more importantly, despite the fact that CK comes with a landing page builder, it doesn’t do the job as well as LP could. If you really want to increase your conversions and gather more effective, organic leads, I suggest you look into both platforms and use them in tandem instead.
If you’re worried about the costs, ConverKit comes with a free plan you can use in the meantime.
By the time you’re forced to upgrade to a paid plan, you’ll be seeing more customers left and right than you know what to do with, which makes less than $100 a month for lead generation and nurturing platforms sound like petty change.
