Elementor review

Essentially, the software serves as a means to help biz owners and marketers launch an online business as well as leverage their marketing efforts.

The editor is equipped with a wide range of essential tools and plugins too. Aside from that, Elementor also allows users to create visually appealing and fully functional pages and design layouts.

Here’s a quick preview of what’s inside the software:

  • Drag-and-drop site and page editor
  • Mobile-responsive layouts
  • Library of templates and building blocks
  • It lets you integrate third-party tools
  • Fully-featured conversion forms
  • Pop-up building tools

On the one hand, if you are not the type who likes to start from scratch, Elementor provides a collection of 150+ landing page templates that you can modify or use as-is. It also renders a feature that allows you to create individual designs for different sections of your page.

Who can use it?

Elementor is an excellent marketing software to launch a startup or a project. However, it has features that are more beneficial to a few groups of individuals.

elementor target audience

To see if it is the right tool for your business, I listed down below a few people who I think should use Elementor:

1. Entrepreneurs and marketers who are WordPress users.

Elementor is designed specifically to produce WordPress-oriented content and websites. From landing pages to conversion tools, users can seamlessly integrate it into the said content management system platform.

It is why individuals who use WordPress as their CMS will benefit greatly from Elementor’s perks.

Aside from landing pages, Elementor WooCommerce builder is a great advantage for solopreneurs too.

It allows merchants and marketers to create fully functional online stores equipped with high-converting product pages.

3. Entrepreneurs and marketers with knowledge of web development.

Although visual page builders such as Elementor primarily cater to non-programmers, the software accommodates web developers as well via its extendable platform.

What it does it lets users build and customize their own themes and popups. It has educational materials too like tutorials that you can use to learn new things and improve your skills.

What are the pros and cons?

Elementor has its advantages as well as disadvantages too. I listed down below a few pros and cons to help you gauge its capacity.

elementor pros and cons

Pros

  • Elementor offers a free version. Aside from paid plans, Elementor offers a free version of the platform. It is not a free trial and anyone can use it as long as they want without expiration. It is perfect for starters and those who wish to test it first. But there is a catch: users can only access the page builder and its library of widgets.
  • Advanced webpage builder equipped with a wide range of building blocks. The software also has a builder that you can use to create websites. The builder requires zero coding skills and is equipped with numerous elements that you can integrate into your pages to leverage conversion rate.
  • It renders various add-ons. Apart from platform integrations, the software also enables third-party add-ons. They have many categories (according to their purposes) such as essential addons, ultimate addons, Envato elements, etc.

  • It has an intuitive theme builder. Elementor offers the most innovative theme builder that enables marketers to create fully functional and at the same time visually appealing websites. You can create individual layouts for different areas of your page as well. The feature comes with numerous widgets too that you can integrate seamlessly into your pages.

Cons

  • It does not offer chat support (emails only). Although you can inquire via email, Elementor, unfortunately, does not support real-time chat customer service. And it could be an inconvenience especially if you need immediate technical assistance. Besides, they don’t have a ticketing tool either.
  • Its learning curve is steep. The platform does offer innovative and smart features. However, it could also be trouble - particularly beginners and individuals with poor technical skills - as it may overwhelm users from properly using it.
  • It has only a few marketing-oriented tools. Elementor offers a limited number of marketing-friendly features. And it might be a trouble for those who want to maximize the usage of their marketing campaigns.
  • Constant updates can result in bugs sometimes. Elementor updates could be a bit of inconvenience to some as they set up weekly upgrades.

Elementor pricing plans

Elementor is divided into three affordable plans: the personal, plus, and expert. Here’s an overview of each package:

1. Elementor personal

For starters, the $49 a year Elementor Personal bundle is a great package to launch a project. The plan includes theme builder, popup builder, and online store builder.

Subscribers will also receive 50+ pro widgets, 300+ pro templates, and one whole year support.

The Elementor plus package is an excellent deal for marketers in the freelance industry if they are, say, working with two to three clients. For an annual payment of $99, you get to access 300+ pro templates, 50+ pro widgets, and used up three websites.

All building tools are included as well. Users will receive one whole year of support and updates too.

The only difference is that you can distribute it to up to 1, 000 websites. It costs $199 per year.

4. Free version

For beginners and those who want to test the software first, Elementor offers a free version of their builder. It isn’t a free trial and anyone can use it with no expiry.

The only downside is that users can only access the drag and drop builder and 30 basic widgets.

Elementor review 2020: what’s inside?

Elementor comprises numerous advanced and intuitive features that aid digital marketers, entrepreneurs, and startups in improving their online presence, brand image as well as marketing campaigns.

Each of them offers a unique experience both to biz owners and customers. Having said that, I outlined each key feature of Elementor below.

Innovative building tools

Elementor renders four building tools. All built to help you produce landing pages, leverage lead generation and conversion rates, and enhance web presence.

Drag-and-drop site builder

Elementor’s website builder is an advanced tool known for its visual user interface. It is an excellent starter tool for newbies without programming skills.

elementor Drag and drop site builder

And anyone - especially those who are not confident with their technical and designing efficiency - can create a website layout by simply dragging and releasing elements into the canvas.

The designing process is also straightforward. Users can fine-tune every detail of the webpage to ensure a visually pleasing outcome.

Adding and altering building blocks is also seamless. The left-side part of the editor is packed with numerous designing options and modules such as:

  • Headings
  • Images
  • Videos
  • Buttons
  • Text modifications

But what gives the building process a unique experience for the users is its front-end editing feature.

Front-end or live-editing is an awesome feature that enables you to preview the changes you make in real-time. It is a time-saving method which gives you a more precise image of how the website will look like when it is already live.

Hence, you can implement the exact look and function you want for the website.

Moreover, you can import and export your design easily as well via a JSON file.

Theme and landing page editor

Aside from website creation, Elementor also provides theme and page builder to help you produce high-converting landing pages. It is equipped with advanced tools that make the designing process easier and versatile.

elementor theme builder

Apart from that, the software added essential widgets that you can use to maximize your page’s usability.

But what sets it apart from its competitors is that it has a feature that lets you make individual designs for each area of your page.

Essentially, here’s what you can do using the theme builder:

  • DIY your site’s header and footer
  • Build 404 pages in case your readers get lost
  • Create a separate page layout for your blog posts
  • Provide a search page for better user experience

On the other hand, for those who have poor designing skills, Elementor provides a library of premade web layouts and content blocks that you can utilize as an alternative and a guide.

Below is a brief explanation of each.

1. Elementor page templates. Page templates are web layouts that you can use to dress your entire site. Elementor's library consists of more than 150 templates and each of them varies according to the different industries we have today.

elementor templates

Here are the types of templates you will find in the collection:

  • Home pages
  • About pages
  • Login pages
  • Contact pages
  • Coming soon pages
  • Other types of landing pages

2. Content blocks. These are templates designed for different sections of a landing page. It enables you to design each area of your page separately.

And rather than creating your own layout, which is time-consuming, you can utilize these blocks as a guide. It includes the following sections: about, call-to-action, contact, archive, clients, features, footer, header, 404 pages, etc.

The mentioned features above, however, are not available in Elementor’s free version.

WooCommerce builder

A fully functional and equipped virtual store is crucial to succeed in any type of online venture that, of course, involves selling.

For that reason, Elementor added a built-in online store builder that aspiring virtual merchants like you can use.

elementor WooCommerce builder

Just like the other building tools, WooCommerce builder has a drag-and-drop interface which requires users zero coding skills. It comes with a wide array of store customization options too to help you visualize the design you intend to make.

The editor is also equipped with essential widgets to ensure quality performance and great shopping experience for your customers.

Apart from that, you can integrate essential widgets to optimize your product pages.

Here are the elements you can use:

  • Add to cart button
  • Upsells
  • Product content (including title and description)
  • Product price and image
  • Product data tabs
  • Product rating
  • Product stock
  • Product related

Popup builder

Popups are online advertising displays that typically appear intrusively on websites. It is a well-known digital marketing technique to push the audience to take particular actions.

elementor Popup builder

Having said that, Elementor added a built-in popup builder to improve marketers’ and merchants’ campaigns further.

Elementor’s popup editor is an intuitive all-in-one tool designed to increase conversions.

Essentially, it helps users create fully functional and high-quality ads and lead gen forms. It is packed with intuitive options too that make the designing process versatile and simpler. In fact, Elementor bills its popup builder as a design-oriented tool.

Aside from that, the feature lets you add content - particularly if it is from your WordPress page - seamlessly into your popups. If you subscribe to its pro version, you will receive non-restricted access to the builder as well. It means you will get unlimited popups, page views, and interactions.

Elementor also lets users set targeting conditions for their popups. Here are a few examples:

  • Set which posts and pages pop-ups will appear. Users can set which section of their website popups should appear. It could be, for instance, on the entire website, blog posts, or product pages.
  • Designate triggers or actions that will launch popups off. Users can also set triggers and show pop-ups every time the viewer makes an action. Examples of triggers are scrolling, exit intent, clicks, page load, and after inactivity.
  • Show pop-ups to viewers who meet certain conditions. You can also designate certain types of conditions when showing popups. For instance, some of them will only appear if the viewer arrived from search engines or internal and external links.

When it comes to drafting, the platform gives you the freedom to visualize the exact design you want; thanks to its pixel-perfect feature.

It is because, unlike other builders, Elementor’s popup editor is free of any constraints such as grids, boxes, and rulers. It comes with 100+ widgets to optimize your popups more.

If, on the one hand, you are not confident with your designing skills, the builder comes with a collection of more than 100 popup layouts too. All templates are customizable and can be used as-is.

Having said that, below are the different types of popups you can create via the builder:

  • Login forms
  • Lead capture
  • Email subscriptions
  • Promotion and sales banners
  • Announcements
  • Content lock and upgrades
  • Exit intent
  • Related products and upsells
  • Welcome mat

Web-developer-oriented features

If there is one thing that sets Elementor apart from its competitors - aside from its advanced theme and page builder - it would be its web-developer-oriented features.

It means the platform does not only cater to non-programmer entrepreneurs but also those who can code and are looking to improve their skills and knowledge.

elementor Web-developer-oriented features

Elementor’s extendable platform for developers is a program wherein web developers can build and visualize their own websites and pages from scratch. It is equipped with programmer-oriented options and full-stack solutions too like CSS optimization to leverage your site’s functionality.

It also serves as an educational platform for web developers as Elementor added in-depth coding tutorials created by their web developers. The platform also has a community page where you can interact with other website creators.

Having said that, below are some of the coding options included in the feature:

  • Custom CSS
  • CSS optimization
  • Script optimization
  • Register transfer level ready
  • Command-line interface integration
  • Request parameters
  • Rollback version
  • Custom attributes
  • Beta access

Marketing-oriented tools

Elementor has also a suite of features designed specifically for marketing campaigns. It ranges from lead generation and conversion tools to brand optimization tools.

Although that is a fact, Elementor provided a small number of marketing-oriented features only.

elementor Marketing-oriented tools

Here are some of it:

  • Lightbox overlay. Add a popup-like lightbox that opens every time a visitor clicks on an image, button, or link.
  • Sticky bars. Stick ads on your webpage’s header or footer to increase conversion.
  • Action links. Actions links allow you to connect with your viewers via various mobile apps like Google Calendar, WhatsApp, and Waze.
  • Evergreen countdown. The platform allows you to provide your audience with authentic and evergreen countdown timers. It means all your web visitors will get the same timeframe when, say, you offered a limited-time promo.
  • Request parameters. This feature enables users to track all customers’ steps and interactions within the funnel. The data is essential and is used to leverage and personalize the user experience.
  • Star rating and reviews. Give your product reviews a credible look by adding a star rating widget using Google Schema.

Elementor integrations

Another commendable aspect of Elementor is that it allows third-party integrations. You can incorporate any platforms - whether it be marketing tools, social networks, or CRM - into your website seamlessly.

elementor integrations

Below is a list of third-party software that you can add into your Elementor pages and sites:

  • For marketing tools, you can integrate Active Campaign, MailChimp, HubSpot, Drip, ConvertKit, and GetResponse.
  • For WordPress plugins, you can use Yoast, Toolset, ACF, WooCommerce, and PODS.
  • For social networks, you can integrate Slack, YouTube, Facebook SDK, Google Maps, Soundcloud, and Vimeo.

Third-party Elementor add-ons

Here are a few add-ons you can use and integrate with your Elementor websites and pages:

1. Essential add-ons. Essential add-ons are new and advanced elements gathered into one virtual toolbox. These third-party add-ons are built to enhance your WordPress pages’ visuals as well as functionality.

Elementor Add-Ons

Essential add-ons, however, are not free. And users can avail it via its three affordable plans.

2. Ultimate add-ons. The ultimate add-on is a toolbox of unique and innovative widgets that you can utilize to strengthen your landing page’s functionality, versatility, and overall performance.

All building blocks are designer-friendly, desktop and mobile responsive, and WooCommerce compatible. It also has a white label feature which means you can rebrand its addons as yours on your client’s webpages.

3. Envato elements. Envato elements are plugins that you can use to create WordPress websites and import royalty-free photos directly into your page.

It also has thousands of free quality web templates. All designs are customizable as well.

Elementor alternatives

Do Elementor’s perks are unable to impress you? If you think the software is not apt for you and your online business, consider the Elementor alternatives I shared below:

Thrive Themes is a comprehensive WordPress-oriented virtual toolbox created as a solution to low performing sales funnels. And same as Elementor, it comes with various plugins and builders equipped with numerous tools designed for optimization.

Each of them is built with beginners in mind, which means all are straightforward to use with entry-level accessibility.

thrivethemes products

Aside from that, premade web templates are available too. Here’s a quick overview of how the software can help you:

  • Build high-converting landing pages
  • Optimize lead generation campaigns
  • Launch an online course
  • Improve audience engagement and web presence

But what makes Thrive Themes different is that it gives more emphasis on how your pages perform. It is because it comes with a suite of building blocks that allow marketers to create conversion-focused landing pages and web layouts.

Aside from that, Thrive Themes made all their plugins available for individual purchase.

If you want to know more, study my Thrive Themes review.

Divi is a WordPress page builder produced and developed by Elegant themes. It has a drag-and-drop interface similar to Elementor and a collection of premade website themes that users can customize to their needs.

best tools for digital marketing - divi

Elegant Themes’ features almost resemble Elementor’s. It is packed with advanced tools both for designing and optimization purposes.

In fact, both emphasize their designing process by making it flexible and simpler.

Another aspect they share is the front-end editing feature. It means both builders allow you to customize layouts and at the same time see the changes in real-time.

On the other hand, I noticed a few things which I think make Elementor one-step ahead from Elegant Themes. And these aspects are:

  • The software provides an extendable platform built particularly for entrepreneurs with knowledge in web development.
  • Users can also create individual designs for each section of the webpage.
  • It has a WooCommerce builder to support online shop building.
  • Anyone can use its theme and page builder without charge through its free version.

OptimizePress is a marketing tool and a WordPress-oriented page builder. It is a drag-and-drop editor equipped with advanced tools as well as web templates that you can alter or use without changing the design.

optimizepress-home

However, unlike Elementor, its main selling point is not only lead generation and conversion optimization features, but sales funnel enhancing tools.

The software offers tools that you can use in building sales funnels, training pages, and membership sites. These features are what make OptimizePress different from Elementor as well.

As such, if you are looking to leverage not only your landing pages, I suggest you try it instead.

Putting it all together

Elementor being a WordPress page builder has indeed achieved an amazing job - whether it is about the design or optimization process - in providing site and page solutions.

Its developers come up with the most advanced and fresh concepts to help users like you in providing most of the digital needs your business requires.

Elementor’s features assure you that you will not only be producing ordinary marketing materials but quality and high-performing content.

All in all, Elementor and its entirety is a commendable marketing platform to kickstart an online venture.
