The two were raised in a similar environment, having the same parents and living in the same house. Unfortunately, their father died due to a stroke when Grant was ten years old—a tragedy that would shape his life forever.

At first, Grant used drugs to cope with his loss.

Still, after feeling like he had no purpose in life and being expelled from school multiple times for high on drugs, he went back home to tell his mother and father that he'd finish school so they could be proud of him.

He then enrolled at McNeese State University in Louisiana, graduating with a business administration degree in 1981.

Grant was rewarded for his efforts when he set out to create improvements in the automotive business. Before making his second real estate investment, he worked as an automotive sales consultant.

He got started in real estate investments before reaching 30 years old; his first step was renting out his own single-family home in Houston's suburbs he acquired before.

However, he did not let the fact that his first investment was a failure deter him from making other investments.

Five years later, he spent $1.9 million to buy an apartment complex in San Diego's Mission Hills district

Not long after that, he bought another piece of property. By 2012, he had direct control over 1,016 properties worth $58 million via his business, Cardone Capital.
