I always say that nothing is easy - even when you're really good at it. The same can be said of affiliate marketing. Although it's one of the most rewarding experiences I've ever had in my life, being an affiliate marketer isn't exactly for the faint of heart.
So, how hard is affiliate marketing? I'm answering all your questions as well as giving you some tips on succeeding below.
How hard is affiliate marketing?
For me, affiliate marketing is the easiest thing I do. I can throw a piece up on my website and let it sit for a few days, and if people like it enough, they will buy through one of my affiliate links.
But it wasn't always this way. I remember back when I was just starting out that I was having a hard time. I had the same problem everyone else has - I couldn't figure out how to get people to visit my site, and I couldn't get them to buy what I was selling.
So, how did things change? I'm gonna be honest, it didn't happen overnight. There were plenty of sleepless nights and lots of trial and error. I even remember going through dry months where I didn't earn anything but was still spending most of my time and extra cash running ads for products and posts that weren't getting a return of investment.
But eventually, I figured it all out. I wasn't as lucky as you are to have thousands of resources available to me at any time I needed. You have the world at your fingertips. You can literally find answers to any question you have in seconds.
For me, it took time and experience. I spent thousands of dollars running different marketing campaigns before I found what was working for me. And even then, I didn't stop trying new things until I found a combination that worked.
What makes affiliate marketing hard?
There are a few different reasons why affiliate marketing is difficult, but the most important one is that it doesn't come easy. You've got to work at it. It's not like a regular job where you show up and do your thing until you get home.
There are no set hours or vacation days. This can be both a good and bad thing because if you want to succeed at affiliate marketing, you've got to put in the time and effort every single day.
But I've found that this also can be a good thing because there are no set hours. If you have a full-time job and are trying to work on affiliate marketing on the side, it's very easy to get burnt out and too tired to do anything. But when you're not tied down by a boss, it's very simple to make time for the things that matter.
How can you make affiliate marketing easier?
The easiest way to make affiliate marketing easier is to think of it as a job. I know, I know - we said above that you can't treat it like one or else you'll end up burning out. However, if you set aside a set amount of time each day to work on your business, even if it's just for 30 minutes, then it will be easy to do what needs to be done when the time comes.
The second way to make affiliate marketing easier is to pick a specific niche and stick with it. For example, I know a lot of people who do the same thing - they start by promoting an eBook on Amazon and then move on to doing things on other websites. Before you know it, they're spreading themselves too thin and their results aren't what they should be.
So, the best thing you can do is to pick one or two niches you want to focus on and then stick with them for as long as possible. You'll see better results and you won't have any problems staying on task.
What are some ways to track your affiliate marketing with blog stats?
I'm actually a huge fan of Google Analytics. I know that a lot of people prefer to use other programs, but I've found that it's the most reliable and easiest to keep up with. There are two different tracking methods you can use.
The first way is to set up click tracking so that you know exactly how many clicks you're getting from each product and post. This is the best way to keep track of your affiliate marketing and make sure that you're spending the right amount of time on things that are paying off and avoiding those that don't.
There is a paid version of this, but I like to use the basic version because unless you're getting a lot of traffic, it's really not necessary to pay for something you can get for free.
The second method involves setting up goals so that you know how much money you're making from each source. This can be a little more difficult to monitor because you'll have to do some work in order to track it, but I think it's worth the work.
For example, if you want to know how much money you're making on YouTube, then you will have to sign up for a Google AdSense account and set your YouTube video views as an ad unit. There are tons of different ways you can track your money and affiliate marketing, so focus on finding methods that fit your blog.
Common affiliate marketing mistakes you need to avoid
Mistakes are the one thing that makes your life harder as an affiliate marketer. I've had my fair share, and want to make sure you're able to go through your whole affiliate marketing life without running into the same issues.
Take a look at some of the mistakes you need to avoid making as an affiliate marketer below
Not having anything to promote
I know that this is a big problem for a lot of people, especially when they're just starting out. But you've got to keep your eyes open for things that people are going to be interested in.
The best way to do this is by using all of the resources at your fingertips. There's nothing like an Amazon product page or Google search box but, if you've got nothing better, then you can always draw inspiration from other blogs.
Not doing your research
I know that this doesn't seem like much of a mistake, but you would be surprised at how many affiliate marketers don't take the time to do some basic research. The most important part is to check out reviews and ratings. If you're putting someone's product or service on your blog, then you want to make sure that it's high quality.
Not taking action and quitting before anything happens
This one is huge. I understand that it is going to be hard. I know that you're going to get into it thinking that everything is just going to fall right into place and then when it doesn't happen right away, you're going to get discouraged and quit.
This is what most people do, but if you take one thing out of this article, let it be the fact that you need to continue pushing forward even if your results are not what you wanted at first.
Eventually, you will start seeing some results and you'll get more confident. You should also make sure that you're doing it for the right reason.
Not being able to see the amount of traffic your blog is getting
I know that this is a problem for a lot of people because they can't see what's actually working and what's not. I tend to have issues with this because I have a lot of blogs, and it's hard for me to know what everyone is doing over at their sites.
However, you should still be paying attention to a few things like your bounce rate, your time on site and your exit rates. These are going to tell you a lot about what kind of traffic you're getting and whether or not it's worth your time.
For example, if you have a high bounce rate and an exit rate, then chances are that people aren't interested in the content you're putting out.
Not looking at your bottom line and making decisions based on that
You should be thinking of your bottom line each time you make a decision as an affiliate marketer. I know that you might be drawn to certain products or services because they're flashy or have some nice angle, but this is not what it's about.
It's not about the money - it's about the money you make per hour. This means that you need to make sure that every product pays well so you're making progress.
I also want to say that you should never try to lose money. This is important because I've seen some people say that they're going to launch a new product and then just take whatever they can get. While this might be true in the beginning, it really doesn't matter at the end of the day because you won't make any progress.
Now, if you don't mind working hard and are willing to put in the effort, then this is not something that's going to hold back your growth.
Not paying attention to your products
This is another mistake that I've seen a lot of people make. I know that you might not have a lot of money, and that might seem like it would be more important, but some of the best affiliate marketing products are free.
These include tools that enable you to do things like social media marketing and price comparison research.

I've found that it's always better to learn from the mistakes of others because we tend to be our own worst enemy.
For example, in the affiliate marketing world, there are a lot of communities where people share their experiences and what's worked for them over the years. This is beneficial when you want to get in on a good deal or need advice on how to get started.
I hope that this article was informative because affiliate marketing can be a lot of work.
