Is Affiliate Marketing Saturated In 2022?

Affiliate marketing seems to be the in thing for people just starting out online. And with good reason, it's easy and generally pays well if you know what you're doing. But what happens when the market becomes too saturated? What criteria should we use to decide whether or not affiliate marketing will remain a viable option in the future?

There are two sides to this question - those who believe that affiliate marketing will dominate the internet, and those who think it will become less valuable due to increased competition.

In today's article, I'm answering the question "Is affiliate marketing saturated?" as well as giving you some tips on how to make bank as an affiliate marketer.

What is affiliate marketing?

I'm not gonna sugar coat it. I make most of my profit with affiliate marketing. I'm not gonna lie - it wasn't easy when I was starting out but it's certainly yielded some decent results the past few years.

How does affiliate marketing work

Affiliate marketing is when you sign up with an affiliate program and get paid a commission every time someone signs up through your link.

So much of internet marketing today is about finding new customers. You probably know hundreds of thousands of people that are great prospects for your business, but you can't reach them all by yourself.

That's where an affiliate system comes in: sign up with an affiliate network and let the program reach out to those people instead of wasting time on each potential customer individually.

The benefits of affiliate marketing

Affiliate marketing is extremely scalable. You can get started for free with no investment and a few hundred bucks in website hosting. The biggest benefit of affiliate marketing is that you can recruit affiliates to reach your target audience and spread the word in a way that's much more effective than if you were to do it yourself.

Everyone knows that affiliates add value by bringing on more potential sales, but they also bring on new fans, followers and brand ambassadors. In other words, the more people that are brought on through your affiliate program, the more you make.

The downside of affiliate marketing

Although affiliate marketing is very effective, there are many factors that can weigh you down and make it a bad investment.

First and foremost, there's competition. With such a saturated market, it's difficult for new affiliate marketers to earn any sort of stable income.

The downside of affiliate marketing

If you're looking at working with an affiliate program, you should be prepared to compete with tens of thousands of affiliates. If the niche is large enough and the quality of your product is high enough then you will almost certainly succeed in your endeavor.

However, if your product isn't high quality or unique then there's a really good chance that someone else will come along and scoop up all your potential customers first.

Another downside is that they are not as transparent as other forms of marketing.

Affiliate marketing is all about working in tandem with another company, creating content and sending out emails to potential customers. While this works, it can be a little uncomfortable at times and creates a lot of distrust.

So, is affiliate marketing saturated?

I'd say that affiliate marketing isn't saturated by any stretch of the imagination but it's certainly getting more popular.

The notion that affiliate marketing itself is saturated is quite misleading. After all, there are millions of potential customers that you can reach at any point in time.

The main concern with saturation lies with the product or service that you choose. It's a no-brainer. Just like you would when choosing a product, you shouldn't really hedge your bets promoting something that thousands of other affiliates are promoting in your area.

Instead, niching down might be the most viable option for you - choose products within a specific niche that doesn't have too many affiliates. This way, your pool is much larger and you're able to really hone in on a target audience that will find your product beneficial.

That being said, you can still make a lot of money by promoting something that has a lot of competition. You just have to make sure that you're unique in your approach, and add something special to the mix.

How can I generate more revenue as an affiliate marketer?

There are many different ways to make more money with affiliate marketing. Here are some of the best ways:

1) Invest in a great lead magnet

If you're struggling to earn a profit then your first priority should be to get people on their way to becoming a customer. One of the best ways to do this is by offering something that's valuable.

lead magnet

If you offer some sort of information or resource, your visitors will feel obligated to pay for it.

I use Thrivethemes and Kinsta hosting because they're easy to use and excellent value for money. I can have unlimited landing pages, completely custom-designed and 100% responsive with a very reliable hosting provider.

2) Get established

Without a doubt, affiliate marketing is all about building up a relationship with your existing customers who you're bringing on board. It's also about attracting new ones so you're able to make the most money from your audience.

One of the best ways to do this is to advertise in forums and communities that your target audience frequent. One of the biggest advantages of joining an affiliate network is to be able to access many other communities and advertise in a number of different places.

Focus on communities that have high membership, limited advertising and good traffic. You're looking for quality and quantity when it comes to finding affiliates.

3) Engage your audience in something fun & shareable

One of the best ways to generate sales is to engage your audience in a way that's fun and shareable. People are more likely to want your product when they know that others want it too.

For example, use social media to get people active and involved, try using a giveaway or other contests for customers to win your product for free.

4) Add a branding message

The best way to generate sales is by making sure that visitors know who you are and what you're offering. One of the best ways to do this is by adding branding messages at the end of your text links or in your ads.

A branding message is a message that explains who you are and what you're offering.

Why should I start an affiliate marketing business?

The main reason why I started an affiliate marketing business is to earn extra cash. As a college student, I was unable to find part-time jobs that would pay me anywhere near enough to live off of each month.

Sure, I could have taken out a part-time job but I couldn't stand the idea of working from 9 to 5 when I wanted to be doing something that was more fun.

Affiliate marketing worked out perfectly for me because it was flexible and helped me earn extra cash without putting too much effort into it. The only real requirement is that you need a website or blog (at least with a domain name) and some affiliate management software.

If you have that then it's all about creating content, pumping out some emails to your audience and making sure you're able to get a constant flow of traffic going into your website.

Affiliate marketing is great because even if you're new to writing, SEO or any other particular skill set, you can still make money doing it. All you need is an idea and the willingness to execute it. It's a great way to earn extra cash with little to no effort on your side.

I personally recommend Clickbank or Commission Junction (affiliate marketing platforms). If you want to get started on ClickBank, I recommend ClickBank’s official starter guide, ClickBank for Beginners.

You can sign up for free and start focusing on the affiliate marketing strategy in place so that you know where to spend your ad budget.

How to choose products and services to promote

To help you get ahead of market saturation and the problems it brings, I've compiled a few of my tested and proven tips for choosing the right products and services. Read on for my expert tips.

1) Define your niche/audience

The first thing to do is to get clear on who you are with the product or service that you're going to promote. It's all about making sure that your audience knows exactly what you offer and whether or not they'll benefit from it.

niche marketing secrets

You have to make sure that you're different from everyone else out there so people will trust you enough to be interested in whatever it is that you're promoting.

When you’ve established this, it’ll be easier for you to understand WHO you want to reach. Smart affiliate marketing happens when you know your audience intimately since you’ll be able to promote products that they’ll be more keen on purchasing.

2) Make sure that you're unique/different

You're not going to make much money if you're just another face in an already crowded crowd. You have to make sure that you stand out from everyone else out there, and the way to do that is by making sure that you've got a unique angle.

The best product or service is the one that someone has never heard of and benefits from it the most. There are many different ways to achieve this, but it really comes down to being creative and innovative in your approach.

3) Stay away from trends

One of the mistakes that many affiliate marketers make is that they jump on the bandwagon of a trend when it's already at its peak. In other words, they don't want to miss out on a good opportunity so they start promoting stuff that's already hot and doesn't have any opportunity to generate sales.

For example, it used to be smart to promote weight loss products and services because everyone wanted to look their best during spring break and summer. However, there's an abundance of these types of products and services out there already, so it's much smarter to go for something unique instead.

4) Don't promote the first thing that comes to mind.

It's not a good idea to promote something based on what you're currently doing or thinking about doing at the time. Sure, you might think that a certain product is cool right now but in most cases what you're promoting won't be around when people next need it.

Don't promote the first thing that comes to mind.

For example, let's say you work from home and you're going to have to do some cleaning around your house. You would probably consider a mop or a vacuum cleaner as one of your options. Let's also say that you opt for a vacuum cleaner because it seems like it'll be better for the job.

However, let's then say for the sake of argument that there's an infestation of roaches in your area and those roaches get into your vacuum cleaner because you don't clean it properly. Let's also say that when you vacuum them up, they come out and bite you.

Then, you'll be thinking to yourself, "Man…I'm glad I didn't choose the mop."

What's the point? Well, just because something works for one person doesn't mean it'll work for everyone else. You have to make sure that before you promote a product or service that there's a clear demand for what it is and people will get results from using it.

Pros and cons of affiliate marketing

Affiliate marketing has so many benefits. Since it's a passive income, you don't have to work extremely hard to make money. Plus, the more money that you make, the greater opportunities there are of earning even more money and so on.

  • Fast cashflow
  • Work from anywhere you want
  • Doesn't cost too much to start
  • You don't need experience or skills to get started
  • All you need to do is invest in YOUR brand

It's hard to get started with no experience on the internet. You don't create your own product to sell. It takes time to earn a lot of money. It takes consistent work.

Let's take a look at some of the cons of affiliate marketing.

  • You may not get paid immediately
  • Some programs require a minimum threshold to cash out
  • When you're just starting out, it can be difficult to get commissions

Final words: is affiliate marketing saturated in 2022?

I think that affiliate marketing is still an exciting and growing industry. However, I think that it'll be at its peak in 2022. When that time comes, you may find it easier to start promoting products rather than simply having them sent to you for free.

Although, I still think that the idea of promoting others' products and services will be around for a long time yet.

Also, it's worth mentioning that Amazon is still a great way of making money through affiliate marketing. There are also new affiliate networks popping up all the time on the internet so you're bound to find one that suits your niche in no time at all.
