Samcart was established in 2013 and is based in San Francisco, California. Upsells, downsells, and split testing are just a few of the marketing tools built right in. It's a well-known platform with a large user base.


 Samcart is a versatile solution for just about any online business. SamCart is an ideal solution for designers, developers and small business owners of all types.

SamCart offers a variety of integrations with other apps through Zapier and Appsfire to help you build an effective selling machine that can be completely customized to suit your needs.

Kartra vs SamCart: features comparison

Now that you have an idea of these two platforms, it's time to see how they stack up, feature-wise. Here's what I found:

Right off the bat, we can tell you that these two platforms target two totally different user bases. While they are both designed to accomplish basically the same task, Katra has a more impressive feature list.

SamCart is tuned to fit the needs of beginners and startups whereas Kartra can provide all the tools—both advanced and basic, that you need to make sure your webstore is a success.

SamCart provides a lot of built-in features so that you can start selling right away. Additionally, SamCart offers some of marketing tools that you can use to drive traffic to your site and convert them into buyers.

Kartra is perfect for online stores that want to set the trend and already have a solid customer base. It's fully customizable so you can make the most out of it with minimal effort. 

Not to mention, it also comes with tools like split A/B testing and website creation to help you build your business from the ground up. But we'll go into more detail about their unique features later. 

For now, it's important to understand that while SamCart and Kartra are great options, Kartra is a clear winner if you want to have more overall functionality.

However, if you aren't looking for a catch-all solution, then SamCart might be a good option for you.

As mentioned above, Kartra allows you to build everything you need for your business from the ground up. This includes website-building capabilities in addition to the sales pages and checkout pages that SamCart can help you build.

What's even better is that you can create entire websites, landing pages, and more without writing a single line of code.

Both platforms offer a good selection of templates to get you started. Not to mention, they're both very easy to navigate, so you don't have to worry much about wasting hours trying to figure out the ropes.

Personally, I think SamCart's templates are a tad better. The developers might not have handcrafted all of their templates from scratch, but their templates look more professional.

This can be both a pro and a con for SamCart since it could limit your creativity and you'll have to stick to the same template every time you build a new site.

On the other hand, Kartra is much more customizable to fit the needs of your business. The templates it comes with are a bit drab, but you can always customize them to look more appealing, clean, and professional.

User interface

SamCart's interface is just as easy as Jed Wingo's hair. With a simple drag-and-drop builder, SamCart makes building your website or app very easy compared to the other platform.

What I like about SamCart's interface is that there are fewer options for you to sort through and make decisions about your site's customization.

Kartra's is a bit more challenging to master, but once you get the hang of it, it's actually quite simple. However, there are a lot more options to sort through and you'll have to make certain decisions about your site before you can start building it.

On the surface, Kartra's interface may look a bit more complex than SamCart's. Ultimately, they are equally as easy to navigate.

Furthermore, Kartra gives you a lot of features that SamCart doesn't, like the ability to create your own landing pages, build different sections of your site, and more.

Ultimately, Kartra is just a bit more versatile.

That being said, both SamCart and Kartra have very user-friendly interfaces that will allow you to build an amazing website or online store without having to worry about things like coding or other technical stuff.

Automation tools

Kartra has been around for a long time, so it's no surprise that it comes with some pretty useful features. One of the most popular features on Kartra is its ability to create unlimited pages and add unlimited items to your cart at the click of a button. 

A lot of people like this since they can quickly set up their store and start selling right away. This can be invaluable for startups and new businesses.

SamCart, on the other hand, doesn't have any built-in automation tools. However, it does offer a bunch of integrations with third-party resources like Zapier, Appsfire and MailChimp that allow you to automate many aspects of your business. 

You'll just have to connect SamCart to these third-party apps yourself, which will take a bit more time upfront.

SamCart's automation features are very limited, especially compared to Kartra. However, this is good news if you're just looking for an easier solution to build your store rather than a complete one.

Ease of use

When it comes to overall ease of use, SamCart and Kartra are both very easy to use, but in different ways. I think SamCart is much easier to pick up on

Once you take some time to go through the tutorial tour and start working on your store, you'll be able to create websites in no time at all. I guess it comes with the territory of having fewer features and integrations.

On the other hand, Kartra is much more tailored to entrepreneurs that understand how to build their own sites and apps from scratch.

If you're someone that doesn't enjoy going through building a site by hand, then Kartra might be a better solution for you.

Personally, I don't think the Kartra learning curve is all that difficult to manage even without experience. However, if you want something that's ready to go right out the box, the SamCart might be more your speed.

Analytics and reporting

SamCart and Kartra are both geared towards selling items online, so they both have plenty of analytics to show you how your business is doing. However, Kartra has a slight edge over SamCart in this regard

For example, Kartra allows you to track prices, quantities, and even the total number of sales history. Additionally, you can see information about your search engine rankings, Google AdWords visits, social media impressions and more.

SamCart has a pretty cool feature where you can check out your sales and shipments on the dashboard. However, it doesn't have any real-time analytics to analyze this data the way Kartra does.

It also doesn't show you a lot of information like the number of visits to your page, sales history, and so on.

As far as reports are concerned, Kartra is way better at providing you with the information that you need to make business decisions.

For example, you can see detailed figures about your visitor's behavior on your site by clicking the top menu bar. You can do this for each of the sections in your store and see how long visitors stay on each page.

You can also see how many people have searched for products, where they're from and what their average price is. Kartra also offers better reports to help you learn about the structure of your site and its traffic.

SamCart offers you a lot of information about your website, but it's not as detailed as Kartra. While the format is the same, I feel like there could be more specific information included in each of SamCart's widgets or templates.

Your own brand and logo

This is a category in which Kartra's advantage is that it comes with a customizable branded look

You'll be able to change the color scheme of your store, add your custom logo, create multiple branding templates with your company name and more.

This is invaluable if you want to create a custom designed website for your business or app.

SamCart isn't really geared towards creating a custom-designed site or app. If you want custom branding, you'll have to work a little bit more on your site. 

If you're okay with simply changing the color scheme of your site and not having any custom branding to speak of, then SamCart will be just fine for you.

Kartra is a very versatile platform, and it comes with plenty of integrations and plugins. You can easily connect your site to other online resources like MailChimp, Zapier, Appsfire and more.

This is great if you want to start automating some things or building some custom-built applications.

SamCart doesn't have any integrations or plugins to speak of. SamCart integrates well with 3rd party apps like MailChimp, but that's about it.

The only problem with this is that you might want to integrate a 3rd party app like MailChimp into your store, but this will take more time and effort than if you integrated it into Kartra.

That said, I think it's also important to note that Kartra comes with a ton of functionality which means you'll need fewer integrations to get the same results.

Speed and security

Finally, there's the speed and security of SamCart and Kartra. I think SamCart is very fast, stable and secure. However, it's not as fast as Kartra. Because of this, I found that SamCart was great for testing out features as you build your website or app. 

You'll be able to see what works best for you easily with little maintenance on your part.

Kartra is much faster than SamCart. I don't notice any slowdowns or issues with the platform, which means that it's very stable and secure.

The only problem with Kartra is that it can be more expensive than SamCart depending on what kind of features you need to start with.

Now comes one of the most important parts of this comparison: how much do they cost? To be honest with you, Kartra is quite pricey

It's one of its biggest drawbacks. However, I have to stress that it isn't that disheartening if you already earn upwards of 4 figures a month. However, if you're only starting out then SamCart's pricing might be more attractive to you.

Let's take a closer look at its pricing structures below.

Unfortunately, Kartra doesn't offer a free trial. It does, however, offer 4 pricing plans to choose from.

Additionally, Kartra checkouts, lead generation funnels (including landing pages), forms (including memberships), campaigns (including email), marketplace affiliate administration, helpdesks, calendars, and videos are all included in all price levels. 

If you need more domains, you may add them to your account without having to switch to a higher plan.

  • Starter - A single custom domain is $99 a month and includes up to 15,000 email messages, 20 goods, 50 videos, 100 pages, and 2500 leads.

However, this can quickly get expensive if you choose one of their high-tier plans. So make sure you think about your options carefully. There are currently four pricing plans to choose from:

  • Launch - For one administrator user, this bundle costs $49 per month. This bundle is ideal for people who want to establish a business and construct an outstanding one-page website to promote their products. It does not, however, support features like pre-purchase add-ons, customized checkout fields, post-purchase upsells, and numerous payment options.
  • Grow - This subscription, which costs $99 per month, includes three administrative users. It boasts of increased conversion rates as well as purchasing value.
  • Scale - This plan allows you to have up to ten admin users for $199 per month, which is a wonderful price. This bundle includes all of the features that SamCart has to offer.

It can also depend on whether or not you're going to use the software to manage one-time purchases or recurring payments. Think quantitatively and then choose the software that's right for you.
