It’s hard to find an online business that won’t cost you thousands of dollars: it may be easier just to start your own company.

But there are online marketplaces that are worth checking out, such as Payhip. But what is Payhip? How does it work?

In this Payhip review, I'll explain the pricing plans and features geared specifically toward small business owners like you. If you want to make money off your knowledge, I've got the perfect tool for you.

If you've already decided to get Payhip or Sendowl, just click the button below to get each you like, for free.

What is Payhip?

Payhip is an online marketplace that allows you to sell books, e-books, reports, guides, and videos. They’re not just any platform for selling your content - more on that in a moment.

Payhip Review Pricing, Features, Pros Cons

Payhip is a service that connects entrepreneurs, small business owners and authors with buyers all around the world.

Because it’s an online marketplace, there are no physical locations. You won’t have to start your own company or invest thousands of dollars to get started.

How safe is Payhip?

Payhip is a secure service, it doesn’t deal with physical locations such as book shops or warehouses. The site also collects information about your purchases, but they don’t share it with anyone else

This includes your credit card information, addresses, and IP addresses. This information is used to verify your identity and determine whether you’ll be able to sell on the platform.

Payhip also offers protection against spam, which can get annoying if you’ve created a lot of accounts. The site has a full-time customer service staff that handles issues quickly and professionally.

Payhip pricing plans

Payhip has three pricing plans for the marketplace: Payhip Free Forever, Payhip Plus and Payhip Pro. All the plans offer the same benefits, the only thing that sets them different from each other is the transaction fees.

payhip pricing

All plans are eligible for all the features Payhip has to offer, unlimited product listings in the marketplace, and unlimited revenue.

Users who avail Payhip Free Forever, will not have to pay a monthly fee but this plan has a transaction fee of 5%. For Payhip Plus subscribers, there is a $29 charge monthly plus 2% transaction fee for all products.

And lastly, users who avail Payhip Pro, will be charged $99 monthly, having no transaction fees on their products.

  • Payhip Free Forever - $0 per month + 5% transaction fee
  • Payhip Plus - $29 per month + 2% transaction fee
  • Payhip Pro - $99 per month + no transaction fee

Payhip features

There are a number of features available on the Payhip platform. It allows you to list your products, which includes the following:

URL customization

Every product page you create will have a unique URL generated by Payhip. The URL will appear as some type of unappealing code by default, but the good news is that you can edit it to make it your own.

Payhip.com will show in the URL domain name field since your product page will be housed on their servers, but you may modify anything else.

Product page customization

There's no need to worry if the default layout and design settings aren't to your liking.

Payhip allows users to alter and personalize the style of the Cart and Buy buttons, add a background picture, change the background color, and integrate custom CSS codes on your website with Payhip.

Analytics tab

Your analytics log is essential for you to better understand the audience of your products and what’s their interest in the subject that you sell.

Payhip has a really handy analytics tab on your back end where you can check the number of visits to your product pages and where they are coming from geographically.

It displays the total number of sales as well as the conversion rate of those transactions. Most importantly, you may pinpoint the particular source of referrals (where on the internet they originated) and sort the data by day, week, or month.

You essentially have everything you need to analyze and enhance your sales performance and conversions by keeping track of user activity, which I find very helpful when you are wanting to save time gathering all the information you need.

Payhip free forever

Payhip’s Free Forever plan allows its users to be able to sell their products online completely free. With a 5% transaction fee users will be able to post unlimited listings of their products and have no restrictions on any features that Payhip has.

Referral system

Affiliate marketing is a type of marketing in which a website owner pays for every sale that is made using their affiliate link.

Payhip allows you to set up a referral system so that when someone refers a product and someone buys it via their link, both parties benefit. But, once again, this will not work in all niches.

Coupon codes

By adding discount codes to your items, Payhip enables you to establish promotional campaigns.

Once you've created a discount code for a specific product, your consumers may use it on the checkout page before making a purchase.

Creating a personalized coupon code on Payhip is simple; all you have to do is choose your product and input the percentage of discount you wish to provide.

I do hope that Payhip provides an option that is not limited to percentile discounts since they currently do not offer an option to create specific amount discounts.

EU VAT handling

This is a feature that ensures your safety.

I've worked with ecommerce and course platforms where you don't receive EU VAT processing and have to figure it out yourself, either by paying for a service (which isn't cheap) or doing it yourself every time someone from the EU buys anything from you. It's just not worth the trouble.

But luckily, Payhip takes care of everything. As a result, you may determine your product's pricing without having to worry about EU VAT.

Upselling

I personally like this feature in Payhip that allows you to create additional products for sale in your account. Payhip didn't have that feature back in the day, but today we can generate upsells for our items.

When you have goods available for sale, you can upsell them on other products and increase the number of items under the ‘Your Products’ menu.

I find this really handy since every successful e-commerce business uses upselling as a major method to increase revenue.

PDF stamping

Payhip offers a PDF Stamping feature for you to put a mark on a PDF document or presentation. This feature was added to avoid sellers from having their pdf products stolen by other users.

You can add your signature, profile picture, experiment number, any text or image; or even make the PDF file password protected. You can also add captions and comments to the PDF document.

What's good on Payhip?

Based on the review and analysis of Payhip, I have come up with the following advantages that Payhip has to offer:

User interface

Payhip is specially designed for users with all kinds of needs from newbies to advanced users. Here you will find a customer service team that can assist you in setting up your Payhip account, as well as answer your questions.

payhip dashboard

The interface is also intuitive and easy to navigate, especially if you haven't used an e-commerce site like Payhip before.

I personally enjoy the minimalistic design that Payhip has, it’s easy to get used to and does not look too cramped, unlike other ecommerce stores.

Affordable and reasonable prices

Payhip comes with 3 plans—Payhip Free Forever, Payhip Plus and Payhip Pro. The prices are very reasonable considering the benefits you are able to get from Payhip.

I personally would avail of the Payhip Plus plan, the 2% transaction fee does not hurt that much and the monthly fee is affordable.

Sells membership

In this new age of e-commerce, there are so many subscription-based websites that claim that they offer low prices and make money for writers. However, payment options are actually much steeper than one might initially think.

With Payhip, you can also transform your website into a membership site, selling weekly, monthly, or annual access to the items.

Pay what you want pricing

I prefer setting the prices myself when I sell my products, so luckily Payhip lets me do that. By offering your items at very reasonable prices and charging a minimal amount of charge, Payhip will allow you to reach out to a wider customer base.

Payhip has a long history of bringing e-commerce and product discovery together. Over the years, people have made millions of sales through the platform.

This success is large because it offers a host of features that make e-commerce easier and more convenient for users.

Physical goods selling

Payhip does not only limits its user’s products to digital products, it also allows users to sell physical goods.

payhip product

Whether it’s print books, bicycles, or laptops, you can sell that with Payhip.

Currency conversion

The platform allows users to set the price of their items in various currencies, allowing them to sell their products in various countries.

For example, if you have chosen to sell your products on Payhip in Australian Dollars, then the price of your products will be set out in this currency.

Easy payment methods

Easy payment methods are a must whenever I'm shopping online. Payhip allows you to pay with a number of different methods, such as PayPal, Mastercard and others.

This kind of payment is very important for any online service that you are about to utilize.

Secure payments

Payhip works with PayPal, which is one of the biggest and most reliable payment processors in the world. Your money will be secure and you won’t have to worry about being ripped off.

payhip payment

Payhip uses Paypal, which isn’t just easy but secure. They use Paypal's card processing feature which is PCI compliant so you will be getting the best possible service when it comes to providing credit card information online.

What’s bad on Payhip?

While Payhip has many benefits, it's important to note that the platform isn't perfect. For example, you might want to take a look at the following disadvantages before choosing it:

Not designed for teams

Payhip is not the perfect choice if you want to manage a large e-commerce firm with several team members.

It is designed for individual use so if you have a large number of products that require attention, it's important to note that Payhip is really not designed for teams.

When the system is set up, you will be in charge of most of the tasks related to the site, such as coming up with ideas and managing the inventory.

Landing Pages for your product are simple

Some of the landing pages that you can use to promote your products are very simple and don't really say much about the product in general.

This is a big set back especially if you want to catch the attention of possible customers.

Affiliates managing is not automatic

If you have a large number of affiliates that need to be managed, it's important to note that Payhip isn't really designed to do this.

When affiliates sign up, they are in charge of their accounts from the management perspective, so you should make sure that you have the time to help your affiliates.

High transaction fees

With Payhips Free Forever plan, users are able to enjoy the same benefits the other plan has but with a 5% transaction fee. While the transaction fees are minimal, they can slowly add up if you sell several products

It's especially true if you sell items online on a regular basis, as selling just a few things can quickly make Payhip more expensive than if you simply set up your own online store.

Slow customer service

Support could be better, while the support got a lot better over the years, sometimes I still need to wait days or even weeks for them to get back if I have any queries.

No mobile app

If you're short on time and need to access Payhip from your phone, Payhip currently does not offer a mobile application for their platform, so you'll have to log in on your computer every time you want to check your sales and other essential data.

Payhip pros & cons

Before anything else, let me just recount everything we talked about in this article.

Pros

  • The user interface is excellent for beginners
  • The sales process is streamlined and very easy to understand
  • Payments are processed securely

Cons

  • Customer support could use some improvement
  • It’s not very convenient for on-the-go access

Payhip alternative: Sendowl

While Payhip is a great product in and of itself, I understand that some of you may not be 100% convinced it’s the right choice for your business. Here at OnlineBizBooster, I really want to make sure that my readers have the best resources.

As such, I’ve scoured the internet for the best alternative to Payhip. Here’s what I’ve come up with.

What is Sendowl?

Sendowl is a fully managed e-commerce platform that has been around for the past ten years. It takes the best features from all of its competitors, like Payhip and Shopify, and combines them in one platform, with one service.

sendowl

Sell digital products, merchandise, and subscriptions. It was founded by George Palmer back in 2010. SendOwl is a UK-based company with a small but devoted team of developers.

How much does it cost to sell in Sendowl?

Unlike Payhip, Sendowl does now offer free usage of its site. Sendowl has 4 plans to choose from with a trial period of 30 days

sendowl pricing

Sendowl has 4 payment plans to choose from, Just the Basics, Standard, Premium, and Business Plan, with different benefits available. Each plan is eligible for products and storage, other features vary between the plan you choose.

For $9 monthly, the Just the Basics plan only have the features of 10 products and 1GB of storage.

The Standard plan charges $15 per month with 3 additional features; PDF stamping, Affiliates program, and Customization. The standard plan also has a limit of 30 products and 3GB of storage for their account.

The Premium plan is the most popular among the 4, at $24 per month, it offers 7 more features than the two included in all plans.

Premium plan users will be able to experience PDF stamping, Affiliates Program, Customization, 1 subscription, upsells, cart abandonments, and Video streaming for its account.

The product and storage limit is also increased to 100 Products and 5GB of storage

In contrast to the Premium plan, the Business plan offers users the ability to have multiple users on the account. For $39 per month, the product and storage limit is also increased up to 250 products and 15GB of storage

All the other features are the same with the Premium plan, except the Product and Storage limit, and the ability to have multiple users on the account.

Sendowl does not charge any transaction fees for its users because of its wide selection of payment gateways.

  • Just the Basics - $9 per month
  • Standard - $15 per month
  • Premium - $24 per month
  • Business - $39 per month

Sendowl features

Now that you're a little more familiar with Sendowl and how much it'll cost, let's take a quick look at what it has to offer:

Reliable user interface

Unlike Payhip, the Sendowl interface is designed to work flawlessly and smoothly. The platform is easy on the eyes, with a clean user interface that presents a number of different pages in the same area.

sendowl dashboard

It's user-friendly, and users typically don't encounter bugs while on the platform. I like how clean everything looks, so there aren't any distractions that get in the way of your sales.

Overall, it's a very simple and efficient user interface that makes selling on the platform easy.

Conversion-optimized checkout

The checkout process on Sendowl is highly streamlined and organized with a couple of clicks, so you don’t have to do much work when it comes to processing orders.

sendowl payment

This might make it look like the site doesn’t offer any options for customization and settings, but it does.

Simply click on the settings button at the top right corner of the screen, and you’ll see a number of options to choose from.

You can also choose the country your users want to be in. This can be very useful when you’re selling internationally, as it allows you to expand your sales beyond your own country and make international sales even more convenient.

This is especially true with digital products, where you may want different prices in different countries.

Mailing lists

As with other e-commerce platforms, Sendowl allows you to create mailing lists for your customers.

You can create a list of email addresses that are already on the platform, giving you access to all the emails those customers have on their accounts. You can then send emails to your customers and advertise special offers or discounts to them.

This is especially useful when you're launching new campaigns or want to target a certain group of customers.

Ad promotion tools

Sendowl offers a wide variety of ad tools, similar to Payhip. You can use all the standard and advanced ad tools, free of charge

sendowl product

If you want to use some of the more creative, advanced tools, like social media ads with video and click-to-call setup, you will have to pay for them.

Conclusion: Is Payhip worth it?

I think Payhip is a great product and I know it’s highly recommended by a number of my readers and viewers, but I don’t think it’s right for everyone

There are a lot of other alternatives out there that are much more cost-effective and offer a better return on your investment.

If you’re curious about the alternative to Payhip and want to learn more, then I would suggest checking out Sendowl. That said, you can't go wrong with Payhip if you think it's a perfect choice.

Overall, it's a good product and I recommend it to anyone who wants a clean UI and a stress-free marketplace.
